Ferns Nature Conservation Society is a non-profit conservation organization based in the Wayanad district of Kerala state. The organization was founded in 2006. It was the drawing together of a set of youngsters who worked in different spheres of the society. What brought us together was our love for the ecologically and culturally rich landscapes in the Western Ghats, and the fact that they were all in mortal peril. Particularly the issues that impact on biodiversity, human nature relations, development and climate change. Sharing the natural flow of this region, imbalances happening to it, concerns coming out of that and hope for a better future made us commit to strive for the wellbeing of people and biodiversity in the Western Ghats. Today this group is budding as a Nature Conservation Society with prime focus on the Western Ghats.
VISION
We envision the conservation of nature and promote sustainable development and human-wellbeing based on sound research, policy and education with special focus to the Western Ghats.
With the participation of local communities, ensure restoration and development of nature and natural resources along with sustainable development of humankind
OBJECTIVES
• Work hand in hand with the local communities to ensure nature conservation and sustainable development.
• Create an inclusive domain for education and research-based conservation initiatives focusing on the Western Ghats encompassing all ecosystem related factors such as natural resources, water resources and climate
• Initiate eco-restoration and eco-development activities to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of resources
• Encourage sustainable agricultural and business practices along with the conservation and thereby promote organic and natural farming
• Strive to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
• Demystify Science through biodiversity research, long-term ecological monitoring and capacity building for different stakeholders
